I Passed My Drug Test!

At BFO, we've been asked the following question many times from our customers; will CBD test positive as Marijuana on my drug test?

The short answer: No.

The long answer: It is possible, though highly unlikely.

Let's take a deeper dive into the chemical makeup of the cannabis plant. God's favorite plant contains a plethora of chemicals. Most notably the psychoactive, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), or, the stuff that gets you "high". Runner up in reputation, CBD (Cannabidiol) and CBN (Cannabinol), or, the ones with health and wellness benefits.

Drug tests most commonly identify THC as the positive indicator. Therefore, one should be aware of the THC percentage in their CBD products. CBD extraction from the cannabis plant uses a variety of methods. Each method varying in the percentage of THC present in the final CBD extract. Additionally, CBN is a THC derivative and has been shown to test positive when CBN levels are high.

The golden rule of thumb is to keep yourself aware with the chemical breakdown of your CBD. Ensure you have access to a Certificate of Analysis every time you purchase a CBD infused product. This analysis reports an overview of the chemical makeup, such as percentage levels for THC, CBD, CBN, and others. An industry standard for THC allowance in CBD products is .3% or less, which should not get you "high" and would be highly unlikely to result in a positive drug test.

Be smart when choosing your CBD products. If a Certificate of Analysis isn't readily available from the provider, simply request one or bail and find a more reliable, well-educated provider.
